Your Guide to Tucson Festival of Books 2017

Every year, Tucson Festival of Books comes to town in the Spring and book lovers from around the country attend. Here's what you need to know.

What’s Going On

The Tucson Festival of Books happens each year around this time! This year’s festival is on March 11-12 2017 from 9:30am-5:30pm. You can get the low down all the events happening during this years festival on the website here. There are special author events, all kinds of special things to check out for book lovers of all ages. I mean, check out this impressive list of authors who will be featured! I personally wouldn’t want to miss the Volcano Eruption happening with Science City on the 11th from 10-10:30am.

There is just so much happening during this fun filled festival each year. I recommend that you sit down with the whole family and plan your activities so that everyone can enjoy their favorite moments without missing anything! Come time for the Tucson Festival of Books you will already know where to go and what you want to look out for.

How to Get Around

There is free parking on the University of Arizona campus where the event is located. You can also use some of the great Tucson Transportation tips we’ve covered in the past to get around the city during this busy time. Another great thing that falls under transportation is the Bus Scholarships program that the Tucson Festival of Books puts together with a sponsor each year. This year Citi has generously offered to sponsor the bus scholarships which means that more students than ever will be able to attend the 9th annual Tucson Festival of Books.

Avoid the Heat

It’s going to be warm! You need to use some tips to make sure that you are prepared for a long few days in the heat. Staying healthy in the heat basically means you need to be ready to stay hydrated, covered with sunscreen, hats, or sunglasses, and of course make sure you take some time to eat. In the heat you may not feel like doing that but it’s necessary to avoid exhaustion! With this menu you can plan your meals and expenses all at once!

What to Expect

You should expect fun, but you should also expect to be a little bit overwhelmed. There are MANY things to see and do. You won’t be able to do everything. Take a good look around the site and the schedules and pick out your favorite things! Whatever interests you the most should be your priority! Maybe you can’t wait to see the Character Parade that features all of the children’s favorite book characters, or maybe you are more into the learning aspects which cover everything from history to famous Tucsonans! There really is something for everyone but you will need to check out the schedule and the map to make sure you are in the right spot at the right time.

If you can’t make it to the event you can consider making a donation instead! They provide so much in terms of entertainment and education for the community every year, it really is an amazing event to get involved with!
